Laminar Data Security Platform Becomes First DSPM Solution to Meet Multi-User and Scaling Requirements within Large Enterprises with Tens of Thousands of Cloud Data Stores

Organizations have adopted multi-cloud infrastructure to accommodate the voracious need for data, fueled by the exploratory demands of data scientists, the creative energies of engineers, and the quickening pace of innovation. For many, it’s become common to have petabytes of data distributed within the cloud.

Yet, managing this diverse environment creates challenges for the security, privacy and governance teams charged with protecting data.  Unfortunately, the evidence shows we’re not doing a good job!  According to Laminar research, more than 75% of organizations experienced a cloud data breach in 2023, which speaks for itself.

Further, as companies move towards cloud-based data storage solutions, they are faced with the challenge of securing their data in a complex environment that is constantly changing and evolving. Laminar’s recent announcement of new features for its cloud-native Data Security Posture Management (DSPM) platform is a step towards meeting this challenge head-on.

Laminar has become the first cloud-native DSPM solution to meet stringent and demanding enterprise requirements. The platform’s new features address multi-business-unit, multinational requirements of all stakeholders, including executives, data security managers, and GRC personnel with scalable data security for the cloud.

“With the sheer complexity and scope of data security challenges faced by businesses today, it’s no wonder that three in four organizations experienced a cloud data breach in 2022”, said Amit Shaked, CEO and co-founder of Laminar.  “Clearly organizations are needing a more scalable, sustainable approach to discovering and governing cloud data.”

To achieve comprehensive large enterprise cloud data management, a DSPM must include summarized global data risk reporting as well as drilled-down views based on data sensitivity, security posture or other factors. The Laminar Platform enables executives to view the entire organization by various attributes such as business unit, environment, geography, application team, and data type. This enables centralized data security teams and CISOs to see where the biggest security gaps are.

Laminar Executive Data Landscape Dashboard

The Laminar Executive Data Landscape Dashboard is one of the new features that enable this summarized global view for executives and CISOs responsible for understanding risks across the organization. This dashboard highlights data risk, exposure, and sensitivity across all business units, accounts, and environments. It enables data security teams to filter and group accounts by common security requirements and posture, focusing attention where it’s most needed. The dashboard provides a comprehensive view of the organization’s data, which is critical for making informed decisions about security policies and procedures.

Role Based Access Control (RBAC)

Another new feature that addresses the challenges of securing cloud-based data is Best-in-class RBAC (Role-Based Access Control) support. The Laminar Platform ensures only authorized users can view or edit data policies or take remediation actions in the Laminar app and administer the system. For decentralized organizations, security and compliance teams can also segment and assign permissions based on account group to further filter access by attributes such as business unit, sub-tenant, account, data sensitivity, geography, etc. in addition to the user role. This allows granular filtering of views and permissions to fit the unique organizational structure and risk profiles of respective business units.

Secure Data Previewing

Secure Data Previewing is another unique feature that Laminar has introduced to address the challenges of securing cloud-based data. It eliminates false positives and unnecessary Dev requests by allowing data security teams to securely validate data samples with data owners prior to fix escalation, without further exposing any data unnecessarily. The platform never removes data from the customer’s environment. Data sample inspection occurs via encrypted, locally hosted, auto-deleting snapshots exposing only anonymized user-selected data elements temporarily to data owners, while masking sensitive elements, preventing inadvertent disclosure.

Data Taxonomy Customization

Data Taxonomy Customization is yet another unique feature of the Laminar Platform that can be customized to align with an enterprise’s data taxonomy, including custom data types, tailored policies, and custom sensitivity levels when classifying data to match each company’s data language and automate custom policy verification. This feature ensures that the platform can be customized to meet the unique needs of each enterprise and its applications, and ensures that data findings and alerts are more readily understood and actioned by responsible data owners within the business.

The Laminar Platform can easily scale to huge cloud data deployments with tens of thousands of data stores and petabytes of data across all of the major cloud service providers (CSPs) and leading data warehouses, including recently announced GCP and Snowflake support. The platform was built to run autonomously, without a corresponding increase in administrative effort. This feature enables enterprises to grow their cloud-based data storage without compromising on security, regardless of the level of staffing or resources available.

Regulatory Compliance Automation

Finally, the Laminar Platform can segment data, enforce policy, and report on compliance based on the leading regulatory and compliance frameworks (CDMC, CPRA, CIS, PCI, HIPAA, GDPR, etc.). This feature enables enterprises to comply with the regulatory and compliance frameworks specific to their industry, ensuring that their data is always secure and compliant. It also reduces the burden on GRC teams when it comes to audit time.

In conclusion, Laminar’s cloud-native Data Security Platform uniquely addresses multi-business-unit, multinational requirements with scalable data security for the cloud. The new features are built with feedback from CISOs facing data security, privacy, and compliance challenges at some of the largest, most complex enterprises. With the Laminar Platform, businesses can achieve enterprise readiness with the staff they have today. Overall, the Laminar Platform is a valuable solution for businesses to achieve data security and governance across multi-cloud architectures.
